Stockyard Beef is thrilled to announce its recognition as a State Finalist in the Telstra Best of Business Awards. The company has been shortlisted in the Promoting Sustainability category, a testament to its exceptional efforts in driving sustainable change within the business and the industry.

The Telstra Best of Business Business Awards is known for celebrating excellence, best practice, and innovation in the Australian business community. Out of 226 shortlisted businesses, Stockyard Beef was the sole primary producer and only red-meat representative shortlisted in the 2023 awards. This recognition emphasises the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and championing sustainability in the beef industry.

The Promoting Sustainability category in the Telstra Best of Business Awards is designed to highlight businesses that have demonstrated a strong commitment to reducing their environmental impact, while also inspiring change within their respective industries. Stockyard Beef has consistently adopted innovative and sustainable practices to minimise its environmental footprint, setting a remarkable example for the agricultural sector.

Stockyard Beef Managing Director, Lachie Hart commented on the business receiving an award for its sustainability efforts stating, “We are honoured to be named a State Finalist in the Telstra Best of Business Awards for Promoting Sustainability. As a multi-generational family owned and run business, we’re proud to be recognised for our sustainable practices which our team work hard to achieve for the animals in our care, our communities and our customers. This recognition is a testament to the hard work, innovation, and dedication of our entire team.”
Lachie continued, “The beef industry regularly comes under scrutiny for its environmental footprint, but we have made it our mission to help move our industry towards a sustainable future through leading by example. We believe that producing efficient, sustainable, and safe beef is not only possible but essential for the future of our industry. This recognition is a validation of our commitment to these practices.” Stockyard Beef has a holistic approach to sustainability, with initiatives across the environment, animal wellbeing, people and the community. The company continually seeks to improve its operations and reduce its carbon footprint, reinforcing its dedication to creating a more sustainable and environmentally responsible beef industry.

Some of the initiatives already implemented include a shift to renewable energy, emission reduction as part of the industry’s first sustainability-linked loan and a trial in feed additives to reduce methane emissions in partnership with Australian Government’s Methane Emissions Reduction in Livestock Research, Bovine Dynamics and Sea Forest.

The Telstra Business Awards State Finalist recognition is not only a reflection of Stockyard Beef’s commitment to sustainability but also a testament to its contribution to a more environmentally conscious and responsible business landscape.

The state winner of each category will be announced on 3 November 2023, before the National Winner and Business of Year announced at a gala dinner on 8 February 2024.
