Stockyard claims trophy at Queensland food awards for the fifth year running

For the fifth year in a row, Stockyard has claimed the title of Grand Champion Branded Beef of Show at the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show (RQFWS) Awards in Brisbane.

Stockyard was awarded gold medals for Stockyard Gold and Stockyard Wagyu Black labels confirming its position as Australia’s most awarded beef brand.

Stockyard Gold adds another medal to its suite

Fitting to its name, Stockyard Gold took out the Gold medal in the Open Beef category with a product derived from Angus cattle which has been fed for a minimum of 200 days. This label has established itself in markets as a consistent and premium product, full of robust flavours and fine flecks of marbling.

This label is a strong performer in the RQFWS Awards, winning a medal consistently over the last 4 years.

Gold for Stockyard

Stockyard Wagyu Black secured a Gold medal at the awards in the Wagyu Marble Score 7+ category with the highest total (92.5 points) across all categories.

Stockyard Black label is heralded for its exceptional marbling and flavour profile, with judges commenting it has “flavours of soft buttery caramel, cereal and cashew nut”.

Beef under this label achieves a marble score of 8-9 and comes from Wagyu cattle on a 400-day feeding program at Stockyard’s Kerwee Feedlot.

Grand Champions 5 times over

After facing the scrutiny of 12 expert judges and with the highest score across the entire awards Stockyard’s Wagyu Black label beat 52 other entrants from across Australia to be crowned Grand Champion Branded Beef of Show.

Executive Director and General Manager of Sales & Marketing, David Clark accepted the awards and recognised the awards come after a year of challenges. David said, “We’ve had a challenging 12 months and COVID-19 was not in anyone’s business plan. After seeing all our food service markets fail overnight, and still feeling the after effects of drought on our production, it feels great to receive a reward.”

He thanked the teams across the Stockyard supply chain, who contribute to the production of this outstanding beef product.

“It’s a real testament to our teams that despite the adversity we’ve faced over the last 12 months consistency and quality remain pillars of our product, ” commented David Clark.

Stockyard’s product offerings across our Wagyu and Long Fed Angus programs continue to be recognised by independent judges as premium Australian grain fed beef of exceptional quality and consistency.
