Stockyard Beef selected as a 17th Annual President’s Medal Finalist

Stockyard is incredibly proud to be listed as one of six finalists in the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW’s 17th Annual President’s Medal – Australia’s most unique and prestigious food and beverage award.

Going beyond the product’s attributes of flavour and presentation, the President’s Medal, which began in 2006, explores the overall production cycle of each finalist, including their commercial success, their environmental footprint, and their social impact, making it the first and only award in Australia to judge producers against a triple bottom line.

Lachie Hart, Managing Director of Stockyard commented, “What a privilege it is to be recognised not only as leaders in quality products, but also as an example of how Australian grain-fed beef can be an asset to our economy, environment and community.

“I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that three out of the six finalists are protein producers because as an industry we’ve made significant strides towards proactively addressing our environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials while taking action to improve long-term productivity. In an industry that faces scrutiny over our production, awards like this help shift the narrative – Australians have so much to be proud of when it comes to beef production. And for Stockyard, this type of award acknowledges not just our beef but decades of investment into our regional community, team members, environment and animal wellbeing.”

Our Stockyard Gold label was eligible for the award after receiving a Grand Champion, Champion and Gold medal at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show in September 2023.

17th Annual President Medal Award Judge, Simon Marnie said he was impressed by the quality of this year’s entrants and congratulates the finalists on the work they are doing for the industry.

“These businesses are not only delivering world-class products, but they are leading the charge when it comes to sustainable and community minded practices which, in turn, are making their business more commercially viable. It is truly a fascinating process and I congratulate our six finalists on getting this far and can’t wait to get out to their properties to see the work they are doing first-hand,” Marnie said.

Stockyard joins five other exceptional producers including:

– Gumshire Pork, South Australia for its Hampshire Pork Loin

– Pecora Dairy in Robertson, NSW, for its Yarrawa Cheese

– Mountain Culture Beer Co, NSW with Hill People

– The Food Farm, NSW for their organic chicken

– Meredith Dairy, VIC for their Meredith Dairy Fresh Goats Cheese Dusted with Ash

To determine this year’s winner, President’s Medal Judges, Simon Marnie and Kate Lorimer-Ward, will take to the road to visit each finalist at their business location to see first-hand the impact these producers are making within their business and wider community.

The winner of the 17th Annual President’s Medal will be announced at the President’s Medal Dinner, held on Wednesday, 27 March, 2024, during the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
